Technical Assistance for Strengthening of Blood Transfusion Services and Increasing Access to Safe Blood in India under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

Grant Amount: Approximate Current Fiscal Year Funding: $2,000,000; Approximate Total Project Period Funding: $10,000,000.
The purpose of this FOA is to support Quality Management Systems in Blood Banks (QMS BB) under the Blood Safety component of the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) implemented by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Department of AIDS Control, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), India.
The QMS BB program is charged with providing technical support for institutionalization of quality management systems in blood banks. In particular, this funding will support activities to: (1) Advise and support quality management systems primarily in Blood Banks with large volume of blood collection (more than 10,000 units per annum) (2) Ensure safety through effective testing of all donated units for markers of transfusion transmitted infections (TTIs) including HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, malaria and syphilis. (3) Establishment of EQAS (External Quality Assurance Scheme) network for TTIs and Immunohematology tests for Blood Banks.
